The route moves at a moderate pace, combining cultural discovery, highland scenery, heritage towns, countryside encounters, and carefully placed free time.
The journey begins in Hanoi, continues through Bac Ha and Sapa, follows Vietnam's limestone landscapes through Ninh Binh and Ha Long Bay, then moves south to Hue and Hoi An. From there, it enters the Tay Nguyen highlands through Buon Ma Thuot, Lak Lake, and Da Lat before ending in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta.

Day 1 - Hanoi Arrival
Arrive in Hanoi, Vietnam's historic capital and cultural heart of the North. After airport welcome and private transfer to your hotel, the day is adjusted to your arrival time. Depending on your schedule, begin with a gentle introduction to Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple, the Old Quarter, Ma May ancient house, and Hanoi's French colonial landmarks.
Day 2 - Hanoi City Tour - Overnight Train to Lao Cai
Spend the day exploring Hanoi's cultural and historical highlights, including the Temple of Literature, Ba Dinh Square, Ho Chi Minh's former residence area, and the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. In the evening, enjoy a traditional water puppet performance before boarding the overnight train to Lao Cai.
Day 3 - Lao Cai - Bac Ha
Arrive early in Lao Cai and continue toward Bac Ha, a peaceful mountain town northeast of Sapa. After time to refresh, explore nearby ethnic villages, pine forests, valleys, and traditional homes of local communities such as the Flower Hmong, Phu La, Tay, and Black Hmong. Overnight with a welcoming Tay family, with dinner offering a closer look at local daily life.
Day 4 - Bac Ha - Sapa
Depending on the day of the week, visit one of the colorful highland markets around Bac Ha, where ethnic minority groups gather to trade, socialize, and share local traditions. Continue to Sapa, once a French mountain retreat, then explore villages such as Hang Da and Sa Seng, surrounded by limestone scenery, cultivated valleys, and mountain landscapes.
Day 5 - Sapa - Hanoi
Enjoy a day of walking through the Muong Hoa Valley, one of northern Vietnam's most iconic landscapes. Visit villages such as Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai, and Ta Van, home to Black Hmong and Dzay communities, with opportunities to observe rice field life and local traditions. Return by road to Hanoi in the late afternoon.
Day 6 - Hanoi - Ninh Binh
Travel to Ninh Binh, often called "Ha Long Bay on land" for its limestone peaks, waterways, and rice fields. Visit Mount Mua and climb to a panoramic viewpoint over Tam Coc. Later, enjoy cycling and a peaceful boat trip along the Ngo Dong River through caves, fields, and karst scenery.
Day 7 - Ninh Binh - Ha Long Bay
Continue to Ha Long Bay and board a traditional-style cruise. Sail among limestone islands and quiet seascapes, with opportunities to visit caves, kayak or swim depending on conditions, and relax on deck. Enjoy lunch and dinner onboard, with the evening free for rest, conversation, or optional night activities.
Day 8 - Ha Long Bay - Hanoi - Fly to Hue
Begin the morning with sunrise over the bay and optional Tai Chi on deck. Continue exploring by boat or kayak, then enjoy brunch before disembarking. Return to Hanoi and fly to Hue, Vietnam's former imperial capital in Central Vietnam.
Day 9 - Hue Imperial City Tour
Discover Hue's imperial heritage, including the Imperial City, royal mausoleums, garden houses, pagodas, and Dong Ba Market. Depending on timing, visits may include Thien Mu Pagoda or Tu Hieu Pagoda, offering insight into Hue's spiritual and royal traditions.
Day 10 - Hue Countryside and Craft Villages
Travel along the Perfume River and into the countryside around Hue. Visit Thien Mu Pagoda, Thuy Bieu village, fruit gardens, and local homes, with the possibility of joining a family-style cooking experience. Continue to traditional craft villages known for folk painting and handmade paper flowers before returning to Hue.
Day 11 - Hue - Hoi An
Drive from Hue to Hoi An with scenic stops along the way. The route may include coastal views, lagoons, Lang Co, Hai Van Pass, traditional oil workshops, and distinctive roadside cemeteries known for their elaborate architecture. Arrive in Hoi An and settle into your hotel.
Day 12 - Hoi An Ancient Town and Countryside
Explore Hoi An's old quarter on foot, including assembly halls, historic pagodas, the Japanese Bridge, ancient houses, museums, silk shops, and lantern workshops. Later, cycle into the countryside through rice fields, hamlets, vegetable gardens, and local craft areas, including a lantern-making experience.
Day 13 - Hoi An Free Day
Enjoy a full free day in Hoi An. Options include independent exploration of the Old Town, tailoring, craft shopping, cycling through nearby villages, relaxing at An Bang or Cua Dai beach, or simply enjoying the town's cafes, riverfront, and lantern-lit atmosphere.
Day 14 - Hoi An - Buon Ma Thuot
Fly to Buon Ma Thuot, the gateway to Vietnam's southern highlands and coffee country. This region is known for waterfalls, plantations, ethnic cultures, and cooler plateau landscapes. Visit Drey Nur and Drey Sap waterfalls before overnighting in Buon Ma Thuot.
Day 15 - Buon Ma Thuot - Lak Lake - Da Lat
Travel to Lak Lake, an important area of the Mnong ethnic community. Experience the lake and surrounding villages by local-style boat or canoe, with time to appreciate the scenery and highland culture. Continue to Da Lat, the former French hill station known for pine forests, gardens, lakes, and colonial architecture.
Day 16 - Da Lat City Discovery
Explore Da Lat's mountain charm, including Xuan Huong Lake, flower gardens, colonial-era landmarks, Bao Dai Palace, Linh Phuoc Pagoda, Hang Nga "Crazy House," Truc Lam meditation area, and surrounding vegetable and flower plantations.
Day 17 - Da Lat - Ho Chi Minh City
Fly to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's energetic southern metropolis. Discover key city landmarks such as Ben Thanh Market, Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, the former city hall area, and the War Remnants Museum. The evening is free to enjoy Saigon at your own pace.
Day 18 - Ho Chi Minh City - Ben Tre - Vinh Long
Travel into the Mekong Delta, beginning in Ben Tre, a province known for coconut groves, canals, and rural river life. Explore by boat, bicycle, or local vehicle through coconut plantations, small workshops, village paths, and shaded waterways. Continue to Vinh Long and An Binh Island for a peaceful overnight stay.
Day 19 - Vinh Long - Can Tho
Begin the day with local hospitality and time among orchards and island scenery. Continue through the fruit-growing landscapes of Vinh Long before transferring to Can Tho, the main city of the Mekong Delta, located along one of the great branches of the Mekong River.
Day 20 - Can Tho - Cai Rang Floating Market - Ho Chi Minh City
Rise early for a boat trip to Cai Rang floating market, where river trade comes alive with boats carrying fruits, vegetables, and local goods. Continue with a visit to a nearby land market for contrast, then return to Ho Chi Minh City in the afternoon.
Day 21 - Ho Chi Minh City Departure
Enjoy free time for rest, last-minute shopping, or independent exploration before your private transfer to the airport for departure. This journey may also be extended to Cambodia or adapted to operate from south to north.
