Spend the day exploring Hanoi's cultural and historical landmarks. Visits may include the Temple of Literature, Ba Dinh Square, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum area and residence, and the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, which introduces the diversity of Vietnam's communities. In the evening, enjoy a traditional water puppet performance before overnighting in Hanoi.
Day 3 - Hanoi - Nghia Lo
Leave Hanoi for the mountains of northern Vietnam, traveling toward Nghia Lo and the Muong Lo basin. Along the way, stop at Suoi Giang, known for green tea plantations and ancient tea trees, with the possibility of visiting a tea farm and tasting local tea. Arrive in Ban Deu village and settle in with a Thai family. After time to rest, take a gentle bicycle ride around the village and learn about White Thai and Black Thai traditions before dinner and overnight in a stilt house.
Day 4 - Nghia Lo - Mu Cang Chai
Continue toward Mu Cang Chai, one of Vietnam's most celebrated rice terrace regions. The scenery is especially striking between June and September, when the fields are green or golden. Stops may include Khau Pha Pass, with views over Tu Le valley, and terrace areas such as Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha, and De Xu Phinh, where Hmong villages sit among dramatic slopes. Overnight in a local hotel.
Day 5 - Mu Cang Chai - Sapa
Travel through the Hoang Lien Son range toward Sapa, following mountain roads and highland scenery. In the afternoon, enjoy a walk through the Muong Hoa Valley, visiting villages such as Lao Chai and Ta Van, home to Black Hmong and Dzay communities. The route offers views of rice fields, mountain slopes, and village life before overnighting in Sapa.
Day 6 - Sapa Hiking Day
Spend a full day walking through the Muong Hoa Valley, located southwest of Sapa and below Mount Fansipan, the highest peak in Indochina. Visit villages such as Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai, and Ta Van, with opportunities to meet local people working in rice fields and crops. In late summer, the terraces begin turning from green to yellow, creating one of the North's most beautiful seasonal landscapes. Overnight in Sapa.
Day 7 - Sapa - Bac Ha
Travel to Bac Ha, a peaceful mountain town northeast of Sapa, known for its surrounding ethnic markets. Walk through rice terraces, streams, and quiet villages around Bac Ha, away from the busiest routes. Visits may include Thai Giang Pho and Na Hoi, home to Tay, Black Hmong, and Flower Hmong communities. Settle with a Tay family for dinner and overnight in a welcoming local home.
Day 8 - Bac Ha - Hanoi
Depending on the day of the week, visit one of the colorful weekly markets around Bac Ha, where ethnic communities gather to trade goods, livestock, produce, and stories. The market offers a vivid glimpse into local dress, customs, and mountain life. Later, drive back to Hanoi through changing northern landscapes and overnight at your hotel.
Day 9 - Hanoi - Ninh Binh - Hanoi
Travel to Ninh Binh, a region of limestone peaks, rice fields, and quiet waterways. Visit Mua Mountain and climb the stone steps for panoramic views over Tam Coc. Continue with a bicycle ride through villages and countryside, then take a boat journey along the Ngo Dong River, gliding through rice fields and beneath limestone caves. Return to Hanoi in the evening.
Day 10 - Hanoi - Ha Long Bay
Depart for Ha Long Bay and board a traditional-style cruise. Sail through the bay or Bai Tu Long area, admiring limestone islands and islets, visiting caves such as Thien Canh Son when included, and enjoying kayaking or swimming if weather allows. Relax on the upper deck, join an onboard cooking demonstration, and enjoy lunch and dinner on board before overnighting in the bay.
Day 11 - Ha Long Bay - Hanoi - Fly to Hue
Wake early to enjoy sunrise over the karst seascape and, when available, a Tai Chi session on deck. Continue with a boat or kayak excursion, possibly around Vung Vieng fishing village, before lunch and disembarkation. Day 12 - Hue City Tour
Discover Hue, the last imperial capital of Vietnam. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 13 - Hue - Hoi An
Travel by road from Hue to Hoi An, with scenic and cultural stops along the way. Depending on timing, the route may include Thuan An and Lang Co beaches, lagoons and fish farms, the Hai Van Pass, small melaleuca oil workshops, and the remarkable roadside cemetery region sometimes called the City of Ghosts. Arrive in Hoi An in the afternoon and settle into your hotel.
Day 14 - Hoi An Countryside
Enjoy a full-day cycling excursion through the countryside around Hoi An and the Thu Bon River. Ride through rice fields, orchards, hamlets, craft workshops, and boat-building areas toward Van Lang fishing village and the Bay Mau coconut forest.
